Decision Maker: Cabinet Member for Resources, Enterprise and Economic Development (Deputy Leader)
Decision status: Recommendations Approved
Is Key decision?: No
Is subject to call in?: No
The Cabinet Member for Resources, Enterprise and Economic Development approved the purchase of the land subject to following conditions:
1) That all necessary planning consents are obtained for the land to be used for the expansion of Pateley Bridge Cemetery;
2) That the local land charges are satisfactorily completed;
3) Once the detailed design works have been completed, HBC/NYC will consider the marketing of any surplus land for disposal.
The current cemetery at Pateley Bridge is near full capacity and acquisition of the additional site will provide land for traditional burials, woodland burials and cremated remains for over 300 years should the site be fully developed for this purpose.
Not to purchase the site. This would mean that the current cemetery would reach capacity in circa 2 years. Should the current cemetery reach capacity without further expansion, any future burials would need to be carried out at other sites away from Pateley Bridge.
Use of sites away from the existing cemetery. This has been discounted as there are few alternative sites that are available.
Demolition of the garage (within the site). This has been rejected as the
garage is currently being used as a sandbag store and would require an alternative site being secured for the store. The extra land would only create an extra 5 years’ worth of burial space.
